Two paramount rulers in Yorubaland, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.)
Sikiru Adetona Ogbagba 11; and the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba (Dr.)
Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade 111, have described a former Governor of
Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, as a true democrat and bridge builder who
believes in fighting for the people.
The remarks were made by Adetona and Oyewumi at the well attended wedding ceremony of Prince Adeyemi Oyewumi, Soun’s son, and Dr. Feyi Hassan at the Haven event centre, Ikeja, GRA, Lagos on Saturday.
Awujale described Kalu as a detribalized Nigeria who believes in friendship and peaceful co-existence amongst all tribes and religion.
He said: “I am happy that you are associated with the grooms’ father and my good self.
“You are our Son.
“”Over the years, you have built followership, supporters, loyalists,
allies and associates across the length and breadth of Nigeria
irrespective of age, sex, religion, tribe.”
Adetona said Kalu and the likes of Otunba Mike Adenuga, a worthy son of Ijebuland and Kalu’s friend, have contributed greatly to the economic development of Nigeria from their humble beginning.
He said: “Your companies are household names in Nigeria and abroad, creating employment opportunities for the people.
“I salute your entrepreneurship spirit.”
Adetona also praised Kalu for contributing “greatly to the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria.
“He is a fighter who is never intimidated despite challenges.
“You have excelled in leadership positions in different capacities and I pray God will grant you your political desire.”
Oyewumi described Kalu as a people-oriented leader who has contributed to the society in no small measure.
He said: “Kalu, who is the Aro of Ogbomosoland, has an age long relationship with me and my family.
“He is a man of the people and his humility speaks for him.
“He is notable among all tribes, religion and race amongst others.
“He has played a good roles in government and he is still playing a good roles outside government.
“I commend him for his initiatives on peace and unity in our country.
“His friendship is beyond boundaries.
“I wish him well in all his endeavours.”
