Slok Nigeria Limited, an indigenous
company owned by former Abia State Governor, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, has
taken delivery of two new oil supply vessels from Coastal Contracts Bhd.
The company took the delivery of the two
3,500 DWT PSVs on June 26, at Fujian South East Shipyard, China at an
event witnessed by Kalu and the company’s Group Managing Director, Mr.
Joseph Nassif, among others.
According to a statement yesterday by
the company, the two oil vessels brings to three the number of PSVs
received by the Nigerian-based company from Fujian South East in the
last 12, adding that the vessels were on their way to West Africa for
deployment.
“As we represent a leading indigenous
player in the upstream sector of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, our
exponential fleet expansion is the fruit of the enforcement of the
Nigerian/ Local Content Policy. In addition, we are proud to be a chief
and active contributor to the development of capacity of Nigerians in
the oil sector,” Kalu said in the statement.
He further stated that “expanding our
fleet stands for contributing to the national economy, competing with
multinationals, and boosting the job creation dynamics.
“The double acquisition constitutes
another milestone in our 2020 vision to continue to acquire and operate
vessels in the mid and high –end segments of the OSV industry; it
strengthens our experience and expands our footprint in the West African
market.”
Nassif expressed gratitude to Diamond
Bank Plc “for their belief and commitment to the growth and expansion of
SLOK as a major contributor to the oil and gas industry in particular
and the Nigerian economy in general.”
He added that the bank has financed numerous transactions for the company for two decades and it deserves commendation.
