Kalu insists on press freedom in Nigeria

Following an impassioned presentation at the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce, a former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, expressed concern over the United States of America’s Consular General Jeffery Hawkins´ recent remarks on media freedom in Nigeria.

There is this otiose conception among our people that the Igbo have no ‘eze’. I think this is a wrong assumption. The Igbo have ‘eze’, perhaps not in the sense other cultures like the Yoruba or the Hausa/Fulani express and institutionalize their own kingship patterns. Unfortunately, most of our people have bought into this rheumy impression upon which basis they impugn their very best and ridicule them before the public.

British MP to Kalu: Don’t relent in fight for good governance

The arrowhead of Britain’s opposition and Member of Parliament (MP), Ed Miliband, has urged a former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, not to relent in his quest for the enthronement of good governance in Nigeria.
Miliband, who spoke at the launch of Diversity Group of the British Labour Party in London, United Kingdom, said that Kalu has a track record in the fight for the institutionalisation of good governance, urging him not to relent.

Kalu Wants State Pardon for 1985 Convicted Drug Traffickers

A former Abia Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, on Wednesday called for state pardon for the three men executed for drug trafficking in Nigeria in 1985.

Kalu said in a statement that the death penalty given the trio was too harsh and punitive for an offence considered mild --under the law as at 1985.
