Boko Haram, politically motivated – Kalu

Former Abia State governor and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, has alleged that certain politicians bent on frustrating the Jonathan administration were funding Boko Haram. The violence being perpetrated by the insurgents have paralysed social and economic activities especially in the North-East.
Speaking with newsmen yesterday  at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja  after his closed-door the meeting with National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, the former governor admonished those he claimed were behind the insurgency to have a rethink. The insurgency is politically-motivated because there is no other thing to do.
“ The people who think Jonathan cannot be president, it’s not right. Four years in the life of a country means nothing and I feel that the country can make those four years sacrifice to allow him to complete his second term and move forward,” he said.
Appraising efforts by the Federal Government to rescue the abducted Chibok girls and  contain insurgency, he commended the security forces for their efforts, hoping that the scary security situation in the country, particularly in the North-east zone, would be surmounted in the next few months.
“I am not a president and President Goodluck Jonathan is doing everything a president should do to get the girls back. And mind you, Nigeria has never seen anything like this insurgency before. It’s not in our culture and well-being to see insurgents while insurgency is something new.
“ Let me be honest with you, we must thank our military for what they have done. We have been arming our military in different capacity. So, it’s going to take some few more months to be able to come together and fight them. I’m sure in the next three to four months, the Federal Government and its allies will be able to handle this issue,” he noted.
The PDP chieftain noted that the main opposition party in the country was no threat to the PDP in next year’s general elections, adding that stalwarts of the ruling party across the geo-political zones were ready to galvanise support for Jonathan to retain the Presidency.
“How can the PDP lose the seat of the President when they have people like us who are very popular and creating jobs everyday? PDP has done very well. And for your information, President Jonathan was able to bring stability to this party and people of the country. So, I do not see how PDP will lose the 2015 elections.
“Mind you, democracy is not about one man or about President Jonathan. It’s about Orji Kalu, it’s about Adamu Mu’azu, it’s about Peter Odili, it’s about Boni Haruna, it’s about Governor  Akpabio, it’s about Theodore Orji.
On his speculated 2015 presidential ambition, the former governor said he was not seeking any elective office next year, but noted that  “my boys have been going around printing posters, trying to drag me into politics.
“I have always asked them to stop. But if it’s the will of God and my party nominates me to run, I will run,” Kalu said.
